Great Storm Teaming Up With Brewers Broads
This afternoon brewers from Great Storm Brewery are getting together with a few members of Brewers Broads, a local women's beer club, to brew a collaboration beer. The women's beer club has been meeting monthly for educational events since they were first founded in March, but this will be the first time they are brewing together on a commercial system.
The opportunity came when Jeff of Great Storm Brewery offered to make a beer to sell at both Brewer's Republic and Great Storm. Wanting to make something fitting for summer, they decided on a Wit and are looking at splitting the batch in half for two variations.
Brewers Broads' mission is to make brewing and brewing education more accessible for women, and a big part of this is through hands on experience. After learning about malt, yeast, and water the Broads are very excited to put what they have learned to use. Many of the Brewers Broads are homebrewers, and having the chance to brew on another system is always welcomed. Any ladies in town are welcome to join the brewing process that starts at 11am and is likely to last a few hours. Look for tasty pints of this beer coming to a tap room near you in then next month.
Great Storm is located at: 204 Mt View Ln #3 Colorado Springs, CO 80907

Brewers Broads Event: The Role of Water in Beer
The new women's beer group Brewers Broads, seems to be picking up a lot of traction quickly. Their event last month sold out quickly and the newest one might be one of the more fascinating events in their four part series. We learned that each month they will have an educational presentation about one of the four ingredients in beer (yeast, water, malt, hops). Last month's Yeast presentation was led by Ken Andrews of Bristol Brewing. This month, Chris Wright the owner and brewer of Pikes Peak Brewing will lead a talk on the importance and effects of water in brewing. Believe it or not water can make a huge difference in the taste and outcome in a beer, and from what I've heard Chris Wright is pretty intense about his water!
There are two events, both will have the same presentation and beers. One will take place at Brewer's Republic and one will take place at Pikes Peak Brewing. I believe these events are first and foremost for women, however, women can bring a male guest if they also pay. Here's the details on tickets and timing:
Monday April 22nd / 6-8pm
At Brewer's Republic / 112 N. Nevada, Colorado Springs
Tickets available at Brewer's Republic and at Coaltrain Wine & Liquor
Wednesday April 24th / 6-8pm
At Pikes Peak Brewing / 1756 Lake Woodmoor Dr., Monument
Tickets available at Pikes Peak Brewing and at Coaltrain Wine & Liquor

Introducing Brewers Broads - a new women's beer group in town
Brewers Broads is a new women's beer group in town. The group is led by Aly Hartwig, one of the bartenders at Brewer's Republic and she has some big plans for beer-loving ladies. We had a chance to check in with Aly recently, and we asked her about some of the things she's up to, so check out the interview below.
It sounds like the Broads already have four educational events in the works, each to focus on a different ingredient in beer: yeast, water, malt, and hops. The first event is this Monday, March 18th and will be one of a couple local kick-off events for CO Craft Beer Week. The event, at Brewer's Republic at 6pm, will feature a presentation on yeast by Bristol Brewing's Ken Andrews. Tickets are $15 and are nearly sold out. Last I checked there were only five tickets left, all of which were available at Coaltrain Wine and Spirits (719.475.9700).
If you'd like to be a part of this group, email brewersbroads[at]gmail[dot]com.
