Red Leg Brewing Company Opens Its Doors

"You may be whatever you resolve to be." Stonewall Jackson

These words were on the chalkboard last weekend when Red Leg Brewing Company opened their doors with a bang, and with a solid lineup of beers, during the fitting July 4th holiday. This brewery has big plans. Big 15 barrel plans, but it is going to take some time. As it is a familiar story with several new breweries and expanding breweries, Red Leg is still waiting on the 15 barrel system for another couple of months. They are expecting, and hoping, to be brewing on the system in September so they can begin distribution soon thereafter. It puts them a little behind schedule, but with their smaller pilot system they're still able to crank out some brews.

Two of their brewers have already picked up a small canning line. They bought the two-filler set up from Great Crescent Brewing in Indiana on what sounds like an adventure of a trek to bring it to their spacious brewery off of Forge Road, near Garden of the Gods Road. Until the anticipated system arrives, they will continue to keep up with demand on their one barrel pilot system.

Red Leg Brewing Grand Opening on July 4th!

Yesterday we received some big news from our new pals over at Red Leg Brewing. They are ready to open their doors and begin serving their beer! Just a few months ago we met up with Todd Baldwin and Jeff Lockhart, and familiarized readers with the brewery's military theme, as well as their vision for the next couple years. You should check out that article if you haven't seen it yet.

It sounds like everything has gone according to plan and they are right on point with their projected timeline. The brewery isn't releasing the names of the beers quite yet, they want it to be a surprise on opening day. Make sure you come down and support these guys on July 4th! Here's a link to their Facebook page, and a link to a video they made to announce the party. We'll be at the opening to experience their beers and get some photos of you all drinking together, so we'll see you there! And big congratulations to Red Leg!

New Brewery Series: Red Leg Brewing

Want a sneak peek at the largest local brewery start-up coming to the Pikes Peak Region? We visited a couple local breweries-in-planning about a week ago. We wrote about Ute Pass and we've got a couple more to highlight as part of our New Brewery Series. Today we're focusing in on the biggest and perhaps most ambitious upcoming operation, Red Leg Brewing. In the coming months, Red Leg will open up a decent sized production brewery just a mile or so down the road from Trinity Brewing, and not far at all from Great Storm Brewing. This trifecta of craft beer goodness has been named "The Beermuda Triangle."

Red Leg's branding and identity will focus on the military. Founder Todd Baldwin and brewer Jeff Lockhart have both served in the military and everything that happens at Red Leg will have a military-based theme. The five mainline beers will be geared toward each branch of the military. For example one beer will be named after James Doolittle, an aviation pioneer during WWII. The Devil Dog Rye Stout references the Marine Corps. We were able to sample some of this beer, made on a small pilot system batch, and it was tasty, with some added spice from the rye. We also sampled the Witbier, which also is going to be a good addition to the lineup.
